For over three years, I had the good fortune to work alongside and learn from Norm. There are many knowledgeable technology leaders, and I would absolutely include Norm among them. He is curious and committed to understanding emerging trends and innovations, and piloting them as a means of staying ahead of the curve. But what stands out about Norm is that he freely shares that knowledge and his skills in a collaborative manner that benefits everyone.

In the time that we worked together, I went to Norm frequently. Because I am a creative by nature and not a technologist, I typically came with the types of big ideas, quirky questions, and ridiculous requests that most people in his role deplore. But, always committed to elevating our team and achieving progress, Norm always took the time to listen closely, answer clearly and provide a roadmap forward. Whether it was an inquiry about creating interactive experiences on a client website or a request to help me build out an AI tool, Norm’s empathetic, problem-solving – and above all else, human – approach made me, and our team, better.

Too often, the human side gets overlooked when hiring technology leaders. But relationships, soft skills, and culture matter. They are what make people want to work for us and with us. Above and beyond his expertise, Norm is an incredible team asset. He’s generous, kind, caring, and quick to laugh (often at himself). He knows how to buckle down to get the work done, but he also knows when to take an extra minute to speak with a team member who needs it or share a humorous gif with the team to lighten the mood.

Any team would be lucky to have Norm.

Norm Schurdell is a dynamic diligent professional. Working with Norm during the Digital Marketing Conference 2018 was plain sailing as he is flexible and agreeable. The success of the conference lied in how best it was facilitated including activity sessions and interactions with participants.
